Quick Guide - Tail Washing
Feature: Horse and Pony Magazine  August 2008
1. Tie the pony up outside. Standing to one side, pick out any bits of straw or shavings from the tail.

2. Using a bucket of warm water, gently dunk the tail into the water.

3. Rinse through the top of the tail with a sponge and plenty of water.

4. IV Horse Equine Shampoo is concentrated so a little goes a long way. Dilute shampoo up to one part shampoo in ten parts warm water.

5. Massage into the tail, pay particular attention to the hairs at the top as these get very greasy.

6. Rinse the soap away with clean, warm water.

7. Towel dry out most of the water, before taking hold of the top of the tail and swinging in a circular motion.

8. Use either IV Horse Mane and Tail Detangler and Conditioner, New Naturals Mane and Tail Detangler or Silicone Free Mane and Tail Detangler. Spray straight onto the damp tail. Take hold of one side of the tail and gently tease your fingers through each individual hair. This will help to get rid of any knots and cover the hair with detangler to keep the hairs free from dirt for longer.
